About

SIC12 is an independent artistic platform dedicated to theatre, visual arts, music and publishing

Founded in Aix-en-Provence in 2012 by theatre director, actor and curator Gustavo Giacosa and pianist and composer Fausto Ferraiuolo, SIC12 develops projects at the intersection of theatre, visual arts, music and publishing. Research into Art Brut and singular forms of artistic creation is one of the central strands of its activities, in dialogue with contemporary artistic research.

Our vision

For us, art is a space for dialogue, discovery and transformation. We are interested in creating projects that raise new questions, shift the spectator’s gaze and open a space towards mystery, otherness and the non-conforming.

Our research begins with encounters with artists and singular paths. We support and accompany artists, particularly people in situations of vulnerability, whose practices and sensibilities in turn become a source of inspiration for our theatre and music projects.

What we do

EXHIBITIONS

SIC12 promotes knowledge of Art Brut and its artists through exhibition projects that highlight the Giacosa–Ferraiuolo Collection and bring it into dialogue with contemporary artistic research.Drawing on the Collection and an international network of artists, researchers and institutions, SIC12 develops projects that reveal unexpected connections between different forms of artistic creation. Its collaborations include leading institutions in France, Italy and internationally, including the Collection de l’Art Brut in Lausanne, Halle Saint-Pierre in Paris, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires and Centro de Arte Oliva in Portugal.

COLLECTION

The Giacosa–Ferraiuolo Collection brings together more than 1,500 artworks, collected over more than twenty years of research, travel and encounters. Conceived as an “artist’s collection,” it explores the relationships between Art Brut, self-taught art, contemporary art and singular artistic practices. Its name, Puentes (“Bridges”), evokes the connections between artists, artworks and different fields of artistic creation. The Collection is structured around five thematic and existential strands, recurring throughout the artistic research of Gustavo Giacosa and Fausto Ferraiuolo: the double and otherness; writing and drawing; the body and memory; home and intimacy; dreams and visions.

THEATRE

SIC12 is a theatre company that creates original works through the encounter between different languages. From this encounter emerges a distinctive stage language, bringing stories, figures and singular worlds closer to audiences through poetry and lightness. The creations of Gustavo Giacosa and Fausto Ferraiuolo invite audiences to look beyond categories and conventions, while maintaining a direct and open relationship with the spectator.
This artistic journey is developed through an ongoing collaboration with Philippe De Pierpont on dramaturgy and assistant direction, and with Bertrand Blayo on lighting design.

MUSIC

Music is at the heart of the artistic practice of Fausto Ferraiuolo, pianist and composer. His work, rooted in jazz and contemporary creation, develops through concerts, recordings and collaborations with artists from other disciplines. Within SIC12, music becomes a space for improvisation, listening and dialogue, in relation to theatre, visual arts and Art Brut.
